Where to Dance

English Country Dancing is a form of social entertainment that goes back at least to the 1500s, when Queen Elizabeth I enjoyed watching everyday people in England dance. William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Charles Dickens all refer to it. George Washington greatly enjoyed it. After a revival in the early 1900s, this form of dance has continued to evolve and spread. Contra dancing is another style that developed over the years using some of the same traditional movements.

You can enjoy English Country and contra dancing at regular local events and at dance weekends that draw dancers from far and wide.
